This GPS Personal Tracker Might Just Save Your Life

December 24th, 2009 admin No comments

Getting out there on your own can be absolute bliss, the freedom, the fresh air, the independence and best of all the fact there is no-one to nag you!But as much as you would like to get away from it all, there’s always the chance that as you are alone, you could get lost or stranded. I know, I know I’m throwing the worst case scenario straight out there and putting a negative spin on getting away from it all, but getting lost or stranded is never going to be an exciting prospect now is it? And it is definitely something that needs to be prepared for. So take a phone, take some kind of mapping device, take a first aid kit and take every kind of energy food and drink you can find. But what if you find yourself in trouble? What if the phone goes out of range or worse runs out of battery? What if you exhaust all your supplies? What if the mapping device is no match for the situation you are in? Well the answer is, you are stranded and there is not much you can do about it. Bet you would kill to have your wife nag you now, wouldn’t you?So what can you do to stop yourself getting stranded I hear you say. What you can do is take a look at the SPOT. SPOT is a chunky orange GPS tracker device; it looks suspiciously like a PDA on steroids that has been slapping on fake-bake by the bucket load. But of course appearance isn’t everything. Especially when it comes to survival. SPOT is here to bail you of trouble, SPOT works where no mobile phone will work; SPOT will work in the most extreme conditions - at heights of up to 21,000 feet and at temperatures as low as -40 degrees Fahrenheit. SPOT works around the world, including virtually all of the continental United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and Australia, portions of South America, Northern Africa and North-eastern Asia, and hundreds or thousands of miles off-shore of these areas. To put it simply SPOT is a lifesaver and has saved lives. When 72 year old Mike Brady rose from the fog of unconsciousness on Jan. 4 2008, he was alone on the ground outside a sauna in one of the most remote sections of Alaska with the thermometerhovering dangerously near 30 degrees below zero. He couldn’t move and the nearest help was about 50 miles to the north in the isolated community of McCarthy, Brady was stranded having fallen down the steps near the cabin where he was staying alone. In the first few moments on the ground near Ultima Thule lodge in the heart of the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, Mike Brady wondered if he would live. Having lived in Alaska for the past 50 years he was fully aware of the deadly nature of subzero cold, even as he struggled to gather his senses, he realised that if he stayed on the ground the cold would start to pull the life out of his body. In tens of minutes, he would be weakened by hypothermia, in hours; it would kill him and all because of a stupid slip. He knew he had to move, he knew he had to get up, eventually getting up and stumbling inside, he made his way into his cabin and lit his stove. After a while he realised he needed help, he realised he needed to use that muscular tangoed device we now know as SPOT. Pointing the SPOT at the South horizon he pushed the button marked 911, Brady’s position was relayed to the GEOS International Emergency Call Centre in Houston, Texas, dispatchers there notified the Alaska National Guard in Anchorage and within tens of minutes, a rescue helicopter was airborne and on its way to him. Brady was no longer stranded, no longer in danger of losing his life and had been saved by a device that had only been released 2 months previously. SPOT is a simple device with only four buttons - Help, On/Off, OK and 911, though it is a device that saves lives. SPOT can let people know where you are, it can let them know you are ok or in the case of Mike Brady it will let the emergency services know you are in danger. Of course being in danger doesn’t necessarily mean you need a full-blown helicopter rescue mission, but because it works using GPS, SPOT alerts people to your exact global position, in Mike Brady’s case they knew he would perish outside and alone in the bitter Alaskan temperatures so a helicopter was the only option. SPOT isn’t just a device for those working and living in the extremities of the earth, it is also ideal for anybody regularly going anywhere alone where mobile phone coverage is poor and just remember appearances can be deceptive.

It offers variety, color, and the idyllic start to a future filled with marital bliss.

Licensing Artwork? How to Protect Your “Assets” When Entering into an Agreement to License Art

December 12th, 2009 admin No comments

For an artist or graphic designer there’s nothing more rewarding than seeing your art on actual product out in the retail environment. I’ve been designing and developing art and products for licensing for quite a while now and it’s still like Christmas every time I receive product samples for approval. I can’t tell you how much I enjoy opening boxes filled with various product samples that I have designed and created. Maybe you already know this feeling or maybe you are just starting to venture out into the world of artwork licensing. I hope so! If you are just starting out then you should check out Surtex National Stationery and Gift Show in New York. This show is one of the best ways to show your work to people actively seeking new talent. Artwork Licensing can be an extremely rewarding and profitable venture. There are many benefits to licensing your artwork. The obvious benefits are that you retain ownership and copyrights to your creations while other people market and distribute your creative works for sales. This allows you to gain passive income through royalty payments, usually payed quarterly, and the ability to use that same art in new ways for future profit. As fun and exciting as Art Licensing is, there are some things you should know before entering into any contractual agreement. First of all, there is a lot that you won’t know in the beginning of your licensing career and a ton that you will learn along the way, but you should have a good understanding of what the terms of your agreement will be before signing anything. If you are presented with a licensing contract - review it and understand that you are the one licensing the art and you have the power to negotiate your terms. Also, it’s always a good idea to have your own copyright attorney review the contract. Before we discuss this topic further let’s get familiar with a few terms, that is if you are not already familiar with them. 1. Licensor - You!2. Licensee - the company you are licensing artwork to. 3. Royalty - The percentage you will be payed on the sales of your art. 4. Net Sales Price - the price for which the Licensee sells the Licensed Products5. Licensed Design - shall mean those designs owned by Licensor and incorporated into one or more Licensed Products6. Sell-off-period - A period of time used by the Licensee to clear out licensed product. This usually takes place at the end of a contract when the licensee needs to dispose of all of its existing inventory of Licensed Products on hand. During the Sell-off Period, no royalties shall be payable to Licensor for the sale of Licensed Products that must be liquidated (sold at or below cost). Every licensing contract can vary in detail, however, there are some key points that should never change. Your licensing contract should clearly state that the licensed artwork is yours and that you retain the rights to the artwork being licensed. You should specify that the “licensee” (the company you are licensing your artwork to) does not have the right to sublicense your art to other companies without your written approval. Also, under no circumstances is the licensee entitled to any ownership rights to your original art nor do they gain any copyrights to any piece of your art. In fact, you should specify your own copyright line to be used on every product that the licensee produces. Would read something like; © YOUR COMPANY NAME HERE  All Rights Reserved Licensed by (Licensee’s Company Name Here)You will probably find that most negotiation comes into play when determining your royalty percentage. Here are a few common ranges of royalty rates in the giftware industry that may help guide you in determining an appropriate royalty percentage. * Greeting cards and gift wrap: 2% to 5% * Household items such as cups, sheets, towels: 3% to 8% * Fabrics, apparel (T-shirts, caps, decals): 2% to 10% * Posters and prints: 10% or more * Toys and dolls: 3% to 8%As I previously mentioned this is a scale of acceptable industry standards. In my own experience, I have found 5% to be a very standard and acceptable rate for most items. However, for some stationery items like gift cards and gift wraps 2% is the acceptable standard. If you are just establishing yourself as a licensing artist it would probably be wise to aim for the 4-5% as opposed to the 10%.   In this part of your contract you can expect to see a line stating that no royalties shall be payable to Licensor for the “closeout” sale of Licensed Products that have been deleted from Licensee’s line of products. The licensee will almost certainly include this statement in your contract, however, one thing that you should stipulate directly after that line is that the Licensor must be notified in writing prior to the “closeout” of a line or products and that any licensed products sold during the “sell-off-period” that are non-liquidation orders are subject to royalties. Yes, a company will liquidate it’s products and product lines to clear out inventory, but not all sales made during the sell-off-period are liquidation sales which you should be paid a royalty for. Keep your licensing arrangements clear, concise and simple. You may get advice from people to get an advance against royalties or negotiate a one time licensing fee. These are not  common practices for people just getting into licensing. An advance against royalties is exactly what the term states - an advance payment on future royalties on a licensed work. My personal belief is that it is better to negotiate terms with a fair percentage that works for you. Then make sure to avoid unnecessary deductions such as sales commissions, undefined “fees”, or any marketing, promotional and advertising expenses that the licensee engages in. Some deductions are acceptable, for instance deductions made before the royalty is calculated for taxes, credits, and quantity discounts. I really enjoy art, graphic design, and the rewarding feeling you get from seeing your art out in the market place. I would like to see more artists reaching out to the public with their creative works. It takes time to build a successful licensing career. The key is always play to your strengths. Stand apart by doing what you do well and not replicating others. When it comes time for you to enter into a licensing arrangement - I hope that you have found this article helpful. I would also like to offer a template for a standard contract regarding the licensing of artwork as a resource to help give you a heads up on how to protect your “assets”. This licensing contract template, set up for a standard 5% royalty. You can find this template at: http://www. pixelproductionsinc. com/news. phporhttp://pixelproductionsinc. com/blogPlease note: This contract is intended to be used as a reference to help artists looking to establish licensing agreements for their artwork. Any legally binding agreement that you enter into should be reviewed by you and your attorney prior to enacting said agreement. This material is a reference for you, but we are not responsible for any legal agreement you enter into.

There are small towns all over North America. You don’t need to

Endorse Your Favorite Movies With Free Smileys; Here’s How

November 17th, 2009 admin No comments

Contrary to what most people believed, promoting free smileys on the internet is tough job; in fact, it’s Herculean task.   These cute animated free smileys may be popular, but from the point of view of an internet marketer, this popularity is in itself the core of the marketing challenge.   Try searching the more popular search engine for “free smileys” and your eyes would pop on 635,000 search engine results.   To scale the summit of a search engine’s top page, getting passed this huge number of competitors, one has to find a strategy that is “attention-friendly”; something that appeals not just to his niche, but impacts other online users, as well.
The movies!
Ride to Fame
Not to be outclassed or outlived by the media’s frenzy over the multi-million gross receipts of “Dark Knight”, a company that creates free smileys published online its free smileys versions of Batman and the Joker , making sure that its online users will have something to capture the movie with; a special free smiley icon that they can send in their emails or decorate the pages of their MySpace  and Friendster accounts, or have something to remember by the brilliant performance of its fallen star, Heath Ledger, for months or even years after the movie has retired on DVD.   A smart idea.   What do you think?
And it seems not enough.   Recently, another smiley came up online; an unlikely hero, but has definitely captured moviegoers’ hearts when it was first shown in theaters worldwide.   Proof was its million-dollar receipts that catapulted it to one of Hollywood’s top grosser’s list in 2004:  Hellboy.
“Hellboy” caught Hollywood by surprise; and if all surprises could mean millions of revenues, producers would not mind coming up with a sequel, and that’s exactly what happened.
Hellboy 2 (The Golden Army) debuted in theaters last week with $35. 9 million in gross receipts. Owing to the public’s show of keen enthusiasm towards Hollywood’s latest movie release, smiley illustrators were quick to go back to the drawing board and came up with their latest edition of this Hollywood- inspired red-skinned hero from the abyss.   That’s literally and figuratively-speaking “striking the iron while it’s hot” (as hell).
Smart Move
James Schmidt explains that his company strives to empower personal communication via emails and social networking sites, such as MySpace and Friendster, by creating innovative and trendy free smileys that motivate, inspire and entertain. Everything redounds on giving online users what they want to share, and seemingly blockbuster movies and TV programs appeal to most of them.
In Good Company
As more and more new trends of free smileys are recently added on the internet, there is this brand of free smiley that is cuter, more vibrant and a total runaway winner:  Oprah Free Smiley.   Search for it.
Oprah Smiley became an instant hit as who would not recognize her, or remember her couch? It was not too long ago when a very famous celebrity pranced on her show’s couch while professing his love to his new wife now, before Oprah’s stunned audience, and equally surprised TV viewers. That show of affection was one for a Danielle Steele’s paperback, while Oprah made it to free smileys’ featured hits.
Now the “battle” rages on: which one would be internet’s top grossing downloadable Hollywood free smiley or emoticon?  Oprah, Hellboy or “Dark Knight”?
When dust settles back on the ground, one thing remains certain:  hitching a marketing strategy on events, such as Hollywood’s blockbusters’ showdown, can be a big hit for website traffic.   Don’t miss it!

Mastermind—a Board of Directors for Your Success

November 16th, 2009 admin No comments

By Kurt DuNard, The Exceptional Life Coach
How can you get the smartest, most talented, well connected people to work for your success FREE of charge? What does it take to get people to be inspired for YOUR benefit? How can we create a system with a free board of directors that is smarter than anything we could do alone? A mastermind group is the answer and is the success tool that propels most high achievers. For some peculiar reason most do not talk about their mastermind groups. As a result, few know about this success tool.
Thomas Alva Edison, Henry Ford, and Harvey Samuel Firestone are three American industrialists, three American heroes that were known for being rugged individualists. None could claim to be highly educated, but all were geniuses in their own areas. In other areas they were ignorant. The truth is they were not as much individualists as most think. They depended on each other to form a mastermind group to think through their company problems. We think Edison, Ford and Firestone were smart individually and they were, but they were much smarter as a group. The three families used to meet in Florida and Thomas, Henry and Harvey would take the boat out to fish. What is strange, is that during all the years of fishing, they never brought anything home for dinner. They actually were conducting mastermind meetings out in the ocean where they could not be interrupted. Is it any wonder that three giant minds, such as these, could combine for such monumental success to totally change America and the world? I am convinced that without the mastermind group they could not have had nearly as great a success. You can also tap into this same success accelerator. That is, you can tap into it if you are willing to help make others become successful and are willing to let others help you become successful.
Creating a Mastermind Group
The most important aspect of a mastermind group is the quality of its members. These should be people who are not competitive with one another and who genuinely want to see each other succeed. They can be from the same industry but sometimes it is better if they are from another industry. They must give as much as they take or the group is bound to fail. Like the old story of Heaven and Hell where everyone sits at a banquet table with three food long forks. Hell is where the individualist tries to feed himself with the three foot long fork and fails. Heaven is where the people feed each other and succeed. The mastermind group is where we feed each other till all of us succeed. Here is how it is done.
1. Have 2-8 Members: Keep the group small so everyone can contribute in the allotted time.
2. Meet Frequently for 1-1 ½ Hours: The more frequent the meetings, the more powerful the mastermind group and the greater the results. Try to meet weekly.
3. This is no place for spectators. Make sure everyone participates at their highest involvement. This means bringing great ideas to the meetings, sharing any information that will help, supporting others in their struggles, giving advice, telling about contacts and resources, and using creativity in general to advance the group. Feed others and they will feed you.
4. Keep the Meetings Positive and Upbeat. Start the meeting with an affirmation of positive outcome, valuable insight, and incredible success. Each member should tell about something positive that happened since the last meeting. Talk about anything that will start the spiral up to positive thinking.
5. Member Reports: Each member is allotted a specific amount of time to talk about a new discovery or opportunity that will help the group. During this time, that member can also talk about a challenge in his or her business in which he or she would like help or advice. They can start a discussion with their remaining time. Let everyone have equal time or the group will fail because some members are not served.
6. End on a Positive Note: Give thanks to one another for specific help and advice. Acknowledge specific contributions so that everyone will want to continue to contribute advice, and support. This is a “feel good” time so that people will look forward to the next meeting. By ending in this way, the group is strengthened.
When you have friends cheering you on for your success, you will find that you gain strength, discipline and accountability. Your mastermind group will make it easier to be successful.
